Confident Staff, Confident Children (CSCC) is a training programme with a focus on mental health and emotional well-being. It is ideally suited for groups of multi-agency practitioners who have an interest in working with children, young people, families and communities. 

It aims to

  • Improve understanding about the factors which impact on positive mental health and emotional well-being.
  • Support practitioners to better promote emotional well-being in themselves, their colleagues and clients.

 

CSCC pulls together the latest findings and evidence from neuroscience, psychology and social science about what influences children’s development of social and emotional skills and emotional well-being. It highlights the importance of relationships, role modelling and professional ethos and culture in nurturing a sense of meaning and belonging, and fostering emotional health and well-being for all.  

 

What does CSCC Cover?

Confident Staff, Confident Children is a 16 hour course consisting of eight 2 hour training sessions. It can be delivered over eight weeks of 2 hour sessions or as a three day course.

The training sessions cover the following topics:

1. Introductory session: Emotional health and well-being
What is emotional health & well-being, and why is it important?

2. Understanding brain development
Exploring the structure of the brain, the factors that impact on brain development and how stress affects the brain.

3. Promoting attachment
An introduction to attachment theory and how relationships in early life can have an impact on well-being longer term.

4. Building resilience
What helps build resilience? The internal characteristics and external environmental conditions found in resilient people and how adults can support children's development of resilience.

5. Developing empathy
What is empathy and how can we support children's development of empathy through effective communication and role modelling.

6. Exploring beliefs and mindsets
Where do our beliefs come from and how do they help to drive our thoughts and behaviour, especially when under stress.

7. Looking after our own well-being
Taking responsibility for our own well-being by better understanding our thoughts, feelings and behaviours and the impact they have on each other, including some practical strategies for looking after our own well-being.

8. Insights and inspiration

This course is ideally suited for delivery to multi-agency practitioners or full staff teams within education settings.
