Raising Teens with Confidence (RTWC) has been developed following the success of Raising Children with Confidence (RCWC).  It has been piloted in 5 secondary schools across Edinburgh and the Mental Health and Wellbeing Team are preparing to roll out the training course more widely in 2015.

It aims to

Improve parent and carer understanding about factors which influence positive mental health and emotional well-being

Support parents and carers to better promote emotional well-being in themselves and their teenagers

 

What will I learn in Raising Teens with Confidence?

RTWC is a 12 hour course with 6 x 2 hour sessions

It covers the following topics:

The Teenage Years

Introduction to supporting young people's mental health and wellbeing and the research showing how parents can make a difference

The Amazing Teenage Brain

Looking at the new research around teenage brain development and how it impacts on behaviour

Risky Business

Why risk taking and pleasure seeking may be important for development and how best to manage the boundaries/limits around behaviours

It's Good to Talk

How to keep the channels of communication open in today's changing world 

The Brain Under Stress

Supporting teenagers to develop skills to overcome setbacks and develop resilience

Looking After Your Wellbeing

Practical ways to look after your mental health and wellbeing so you can best support your children to navigate through the teenage years
